World mourns Queen Elizabeth II

International Accounting Bulletin and The Accountant join our colleagues at GlobalData and the world community in passing on our condolences to the royal family on the demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

This month, the world is deeply saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II who was not only the Monarch for the United Kingdom, but the Head of state in 14 other countries as well as the Commonwealth. The Queen has been succeeded by her son who now becomes King Charles III and, significantly for the UK, a new political era also started for the United Kingdom two days prior to the Queen’s passing, with the resignation of the PM Boris Johnson followed by the appointment of new Prime minister, Liz Truss.

This upheaval comes at a time when inflation is hitting 10% and significant issues need to be addressed like the cost of energy, pressures on the national health service, continuing supply chain problems and the ever increasing difficulties in combatting climate change. Many of these issues are addressed in this edition.

In this issue, read the interview with outgoing CEO of MGI Worldwide Clive Bennett, also the recipient of the IAFA 2022 Lifetime Achievement award; there is a feature on what to avoid around audit season by First AMl’s Simon Luke; Floqast’s Adam Zoucha discusses recessionary pressures and their impact on economies; James Lizars of Thrive Accountants discusses Sustainability and how measurement and accountability of businesses of all sizes will be key to business growth and progress; Amy Jacks, Partner at Mayer Brown delineates restructuring options to risk-manage and combat price rises; and Amanda Fraga of Russell Bedford, Brazil discusses Privacy Programmes for corporate governance.

During September 2022, also look out for International Accounting Bulletin’s well-awaited ESG Supplement with original data, features, Thought Leadership, Talking Head interviews and market case studies that bring deep insight from IAB’s subscriber partners into the innovation and collaboration of member firms and their clients on the topic of Sustainability and its impact on business operations, stakeholder confidence and market growth.

Do also review ranking reports and tables on Brazil and Chile with further tables for Columbia and Panama. There is also the usual round up of industry news.

We are also sad to say good bye to our Editorial Director, Ana Gyorkos who will be moving on to new pastures. Ana has served as editor for International Accounting Bulletin in the past and is well versed with stakeholders within the accounting industry. She remains a close friend to our team. We wish her all the best in her future career.
